The Resort
At an altitude of 1450 metres Saint Martin de Belleville is not a purpose built ski resort. It is the chef lieu (chief town) of the Belleville Valley.
Many years ago the Mairie decided that it wanted St Martin to remain a traditional mountain village, and retain its thriving village community all year round. Recent Investment has seen a modern 8 person telecabine linking to a fast 4 person chair – St Martin 1 & 2, taking you into the heart of the 3 Valleys in under 20 minutes.
St Martin is an integral part of the three valleys ski area, but it is still an authentic French mountain village. It has everything you need in a ski resort - a selection of good ski & board hire shops, ski school, excellent child minding / creche facilities, and a choice of great apres-ski bars and restaurants. There is also a supermarket, boulangerie / patisserie, butcher, bank, chemist, post office, and newsagent / tabac. All the amenities of a modern ski resort with the added benefit of the charm of a village where the locals live and work all year round.
"From St Martin, you can easily be sitting down to your 11.00 am vin chaud at Courchevel 1650, or the bottom of the 4th Valley. There’s nowhere in the whole 2,500 hectares you can’t reach inside two hours.
The 8 person telecabine and fast 4 person chair get you to the top of Tougnete in under 20 minutes.
From there keep straight on off the chair, and you’re racing down Dahu (but the first 100 mtrs looks a bit steep first thing in the morning), for Mottaret & the Pas de Lac Gondola over to Courchevel.
Turn left to cruise the blues above Meribel – Choucas is a wonderful wide roller coaster of a run. In the mornings it catches the sun, and is always in lovely condition.
Turn right, and a minute later you can be on the new Granges 6 person chair, on your way up to the Roc des Trois Marches.
On fresh snow mornings it’s back down the acres of off piste to the top of the telecabine. The open slopes above St Martin are wonderful for learning or perfecting your off piste technique, and there’s more than enough to keep even the most fanatical powder hound satisfied".
